Submit Your Stuff

Scratchonline is a web forum for youth in the Columbia Basin to share their artwork, photography, writing, and ideas with each other. Join here or login to upload your stuff. It won't appear right away, it has to go through one more stop with our moderator before uploading.

GET PUBLISHED!
Submissions to Scratchonline can be submitted for a chance to be published in Scratch Magazine by checking the "Yes!" box with each submission.

If your item is chosen by the Youth Editorial Committee to be published in the next issue of SCRATCH Magazine we'll contact you to get a 'CONSENT to USE' form. The form must be returned to us so we can publish your stuff and pay you for your work.

Scratch & Scratchonline Code of Ethics

Mission
SCRATCH Magazine & SCRATCHONLINE is designed to inform, influence and entertain while acknowledging the importance of being ethically, socially and environmentally responsible. We seek to present the residents of the Columbia Basin with information that is important to them, through written and illustrated media. This information will be non-discriminatory, and accurate. We value human rights and social justice, and strive to achieve equality within this publication. This publication tries to maintain a balance of submissions from different topics, perspectives, social groups, and topics. We strive to have an equality of male/female submissions, spanning the entire Basin.

Code Of Practice
This publication aims to protect, encourage and enhance free speech and the exchange of ideas throughout the Columbia Basin. This publication recognizes it has a duty to defend the freedom of the press in the interest of the public, and to resist unnecessary censorship. This publication strives to:
• respect human dignity, and treat all people respectfully and fairly, mindful of their individual rights;
• respect vulnerable and marginalized groups, and not to put any such group in a place of potential attack or demeaning;
• respect confidentiality and privacy, and not to publish names or addresses of those who wish to keep such information confidential;
• Respect justice, and honour to the best of our ability all laws of libel and contempt of court which exist in Canada;
• Respect all viewpoints and social groups, and strive to create a balance of opinions.

Accuracy
Journalists should realize fully their personal responsibility for all material submitted for publication. They should not falsify, distort or alter information, documents, or photos whether purposefully or through neglect. In addition, journalists should not plagiarize material from other writers or other media, nor should they take facts from other sources without corroboration.

Prejudice and Discrimination
We believe that bias or prejudice against members of a marginalized group should have no place in the editorial policy of any publication. Publishing material intended to promote hatred or violence against any group or person is unethical.

Obscenity and Offensive Material
This publication strives to avoid censorship and to exercise freedom of the press. However, certain materials could jeopardize publication funding, distribution, or readership base. Therefore, it is necessary to regulate certain images, prejudices, and vocabulary from entering this magazine. We reserve the right to refuse to publish pieces that compromise the editorial integrity of this publication. This includes materials which are libelous, obscene, invasive, or in promotion of illegal events and activities. Anything which is considered to be unnecessarily offensive, crude, derogatory, or marginalizing will not be published.

Publication and Payment
Payment for items chosen to be published in SCRATCH Magazine will be paid a set rate for photos and poetry; reporters are paid on a sliding scale dependent upon factors such as research, revisions and others as applicable. We believe that Columbia Basin Trust staff, CBT Youth Advisory Committee members, and relatives of CBT staff and board members should have an equal opportunity to publish content. However, they will not receive payment for materials that are published in Scratch so as to avoid a potential conflict of interest. If anyone involved in content selection feels a conflict of interest when reviewing a submission, the person will be obligated to step aside for that particular decision.
